Project Description
“Der Hohlweg nach Tiefenbach” is a level (or better, a region with some quests and encounters), i designed on request for a single-player party based computer RPG in the style of Newevinter Nights or Baldur’s Gate. Troughout this level, the main character meets 4 potential party members, 3 of which will offer to join him after completing a specific quest. Moreover, there are plenty of bandits, ratmen, wild animals, magical creatures, and even more dangerous foes to encounter, as well as plenty of riches and treasure to be found.
The document introduces the main character, all important NPCs and creatures, as well as the background story. It also describes an opening video/movie sequence, that could be used as introduction/transition to the level. While the level was designed for an single-player party based computer RPG (the level was actually built using the Aurora Toolset of Neverwinter Nights), it could also be used as quest for tabletop RPGs - with only a few minor changes. Because the document was requested in German, it is written in German.
Additional Information
For visualization and documentation of relevant game objects, triggers and in-game events, a rough prototype of the level was built in Neverwinter Nights using the Aurora Toolset. The level was then divided into smaller (logical) sections. In-editor and in-game screenshots of the overall level prototype and all sections where taken and edited in Adobe Photoshop.
Then, the screenshots were imported into Microsoft Visio, where the symbols for relevant elements where added. Additional conceptual screenshots of all relevant NPCs where taken for documentation purpose. The design document was type-set in LaTeX.
The overall development time for the entire document, including brain-storming, level construction and documentation was 3-4 days.
